I love braids. Those ones that are done neatly. Big, small, it doesn’t matter. On young and old, if it fits, it fits. Braiding is more than just style. It is classy. Some people even believe it there is some spiritual aspect to it. It could be that it brings out an aspect of our inner selves. But it goes beyond hair and fashion.
Braiding has been in existence for close to 5000 years and many styles have popped up. Many patterns are still developed daily in different parts of the world today. The bulk of braiders are female, though men have also been known to braid. It is pretty common now, but Vikings used to braid their locks and even African Nubians used to carry locks from the old days. It does not divide gender. We even have male braiders in the business.
During braiding, three strands of hair are woven together, each representing the mind, spirit and body. When they are locked together they signify strengthening of these three aspects of our being.
The hair is an extension of ourselves that is visible for everyone to see. I believe that the hair we carry always has a story to tell those we interact with. There is a certain confidence that radiates when the hair is neat and properly styled. It changes the look and the poise of the carrier. Looking good for that meeting, date, concert or party is wonderful. You never get to feel out of place.
Care for your hair like it is the most important part of you because it changes how people perceive you. Braids are among the most fashionable hairdos we have around. So, if ever you get to braid your hair, wear it with pride knowing it is an extension of yourself. More importantly, your inner beauty.
